How to Choose the Right Louvre Door Size
Choosing slatted wardrobe doors or vented cupboard doors? Measure your opening first, then use the louvre door sizes below to find a suitable fit.
Measure the opening and allow clearance
For a door fitted inside the frame, measure the opening’s width at the top, middle and bottom, and its height on both sides. Use the smallest measurements and check that the frame is square.
As a starting guide, allow 2–3 mm clearance at each side, top and bottom so the door can open freely. Confirm the gaps required by your hinges before ordering. For double doors, also allow a gap between the two leaves.
Example: a 720 × 494 mm door would need an opening approximately 724–726 mm high × 498–500 mm wide with these clearances.
For overlay doors, which sit over the cupboard frame, choose the size according to the required overlap and hinge instructions instead.
Which height should I choose?
Use these applications as a guide – the measured opening determines the correct size:
- 435 or 606 mm: small cupboards and overhead storage.
- 720 mm: low cupboards and vanity units.
- 993 or 1100 mm: medium-height cupboards and storage units.
- 1406 mm: taller cupboards or shorter wardrobe sections.
- 1700 or 2013 mm: tall cupboards and wardrobe doors.

Louvre Door FAQ
Can I trim these louvre doors to fit?
Yes, a small amount can be trimmed from the top and bottom rails to fine-tune the fit. Please do not cut into the slats or trim the sides. These are standard-size doors, so choose the nearest size first and trim only for the final adjustment.
Are the doors supplied painted or finished?
No, they are supplied unfinished, ready to be painted, stained or varnished to match your room. Sand lightly and prime before painting for the best result.
What hinges should I use?
Hinges are not included, so you can choose the type that suits your cupboard or door frame. Standard butt hinges (typically 50–75 mm) are the most common choice for 21 mm thick doors. As a general guide, use two hinges on shorter doors and three on taller ones.
Are these suitable for an airing cupboard?

How do I measure for the right size?
Measure the height and width of the opening in several places and use the smallest measurement. Leave a small gap (about 2–3 mm) around the door so it swings freely. Doors 1700 mm and taller include a central support bar.
Are these made to measure?
No. We offer 40 standard sizes (8 heights and 5 widths) that can be trimmed slightly for a perfect fit.

Happy with the doors received – I was a little worried when I saw the packaging they had been shipped in (just a cardboard wrapping with no corner protection etc.) but they were undamaged so the courier at least didn’t use them as a skateboard ramp which is what I’m used to with some of the companies out there!
